Escalations

Escalations link nurse to doctor in real time ensuring early rescue of deteriorating patients. Using Vitalpac, a nurse can rapidly alert the most appropriate doctor to carry out a medical review. Doctors receive instant notification on their device and nurses are kept informed of their intentions. When patient observations reveal deterioration, the nurse taking the observations will be prompted to alert the relevant doctor. High EWS scores lead to a mandatory escalation ensuring compliance with local protocols. Clear rules are used to avoid unnecessary repeat escalations, and localisation options allow hospitals to set their preferred protocols.

In order to act on an escalation, doctors have immediate access to full patient data to assist them in prioritising tasks:

  • Real-time patient location
  • Latest clinical observations and recent history
  • Pathology and radiology reports
  • Reason for admission, diagnoses & co-morbidities
